There are several reasons why this might be:

First and foremost - please ensure you're playing the game on a stable wifi connection!
Events and Multiplayer will sometimes briefly go down for a few minutes to perform maintenance.
Please note that if you have a jailbroken device, you will unfortunately not be able to play Events or Multiplayer.
We have received reports lately that a number of hacks have been released for the game which are causing Events and Multiplayer to become inaccessible and cause general game instability. We do not endorse the use of these and cannot provide support whilst these are installed.
